About this calculation
What this is dividing
Your flexible spending budget — what is left after housing, bills, debt payments and the money you are saving or investing. It is not your whole income, and it is not what is in your account, which still has next week's rent sitting in it.
How the calculation works
What you have already spent comes off the budget, and the remainder is divided by the days you have left. The weekly figure is seven days at that rate — or all of them, when fewer than seven remain, because a week of money you do not have is not a useful number. Leave the days box blank and the figure is over an average month (365/12 days) instead.
Why it moves as the month goes
A daily limit is not fixed. Spend nothing today and tomorrow's figure goes up; spend twice it and the rest of the month gets tighter. Recalculating every few days is the point of the tool, not a sign you got it wrong the first time.
Why your actual spending will differ
Spending does not arrive evenly. A weekly shop, a birthday and a car service all land on one day and nothing on the next. Treat the daily figure as a pace to check yourself against rather than an allowance to draw down.
This calculator is a budgeting tool, not financial advice. It describes the numbers you entered and nothing else — no figure it shows is a recommendation about what you should spend.

Keeping the number current
Doing this by hand means redoing it every few days. PAY/ATTN keeps it live: you set a limit per category before the month starts, log what you spend against it, and every bucket reads back as on track or over without you working anything out.
